Just when you thought things were difficult – perhaps you’ve had hard financial news, or you’re laying a-bed with influenza, or the heat is turning your head to mush – here is something to re-insert that joy in your soul.
See? You’re already smiling!
At a recent baseball game in Springfield, Missouri, well over three-thousand souls donned a red clown nose for a full five minutes. Previous record? A paltry 850 people. C’mon, that’s hardly even trying, is it?
The point of the record breaking event – other than the fact it’s a hell of a lot of fun – was as a way of increasing the public’s knowledge of the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners and their fund-raising efforts in aid of the local Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Hooray for them! Read more here (or click the mouse in the photo… go for his nose for extra fun)!
INTERESTING TRIVIA: As part of Music West in May of 1994, I was part of a massive crowd of people breaking several world records in the same Vancouver event. Most guitars being played at the same time, longest continuous playing of the same song, and some other record was broken that wasn’t expected to be so the details on that one escape me at the moment. For well over an hour we all played “Taking Care of Business”, led by the writer of the tune: Randy Bachman. Three chords, dead simple, bit of a dull time in the end. I still have the participation certificate in my case.
